Jarrett Thors Fine Arts Gallery has a visiting artist who has exhibited not
only
here in the U.S. but also in Israel.
She will be exhibiting a wide range of her artwork from still life to

Eric Smith who is a photographer will be showing at Fat Fredas.
The Art Walk is sponsored by the Colonial Beach Artists Guild in cooperation

There were at least three:

The speed at which the returns were in. According to my timepiece,
we knew by 7:30 PM which seemed so quick I wondered if the numbers were
accurate or complete.

The nearly 2 to 1 margin was certainly noteworthy as an endorsement
of Mayor Tomzak's leadership on the council over the last four years.

Finally there was the disappointingly low voter turnout. Only a 26%
turnout on what was a beautiful day for a trip to the polls. A bit over
2,000 votes were cast and it makes one wonder how seriously the
electorate took all the pre-election rhetoric about the city's future
course. Maybe the ones who didn't bother were so overwhelmed by the
flood of roadside signs that it felt as if the election was there in
the fescue and not at the polls. With all the signs and the low turn
out maybe some of the sign posters didn't even bother to vote.

A postscript: There were a handful of write-ins and I'm willing to bet that most of them were for a "3 toed tree sloth".

Both

feel a lot better about the whole process. I began writing The

Fredericksburg is. I commented that I had this ongoing urge to write
about the town but that there was so much to tell about "The Burg" that
I could never decide where to start.

On

going on two years later I have a solid core of people who read my
ramblings although they do not formally subscribe ( a quick and
painless process, by the way). I've met a lot of really talented
musicians, artists, photographers and writers whose creations I have
enjoyed a great deal. I've seen a lot of art, heard a lot of music,
seen and taken a lot of photographs and the process of creating this
blog has enriched my life and broadened my appreciation for all this
area has to offer immeasurably. I've developed this blog and the
concepts it is built on with no formal training and overall I'm pretty
satisfied with the end product, mainly because I see it as a means to
enhancing my feelings and perception of this amazing area where I have
lived for the past 30 plus years. Thus I offer you who read this my
thanks for reading thus far. Knowing it may have been useful to you on
some occasions and that it may have enhanced your awareness of all that
Fredericksburg has to offer to those who will open their ears and eyes
to what's around them is reward enough for the effort and time this
blog requires.

First Friday at The Fredericksburg Area Museum

The Fredericksburg Area Museum joins the excitement of First Friday with a Market Square Concert Series.

Two weeks from today we will know who our next mayor is. The
race is being contested with a fair amount of energy and a potful of yard signs. I’m seeing a
lot of he said/she said about Kalahari but not much being said about why we
should have a different mayor other than the fact that Ms. Girvan wants the
job. To be fair I have not watched the mayor’s performance all that closely
over the length of his term but what I have paid attention to has shown me no
reason that we should change now. In fact most of what I have read seems to
attest to his ability to convince people with different view points to
cooperate in order to get the job done. His support of the Kalahari project
seems in concert with all but one of the current council members and as I
understand it all of them except his opponent support his re-election.

So, we should replace him as mayor because….? Because Ms.
Girvan wants to be mayor? That’s just not a good enough reason for me.
